Life Craft Reading Group: Hilaire Belloc's "A Remaining Christmas"

Hosted by John and Sofia Cuddeback| Wednesday, December 18th, 2024 | 8:30-10:00PM ET | Live online via ZOOM

Come one, Come all! Join us in discussing this beautiful Christmas essay, in which Belloc describes the poignant and tender traditions of Christmas as they were celebrated in his boyhood home.

The essay is only 4 pages long.  Ideally, you would read it beforehand. But even if not, you will enjoy and benefit from this live discussion.

We hope you can join us!  Sign up below!

“The tradition is so strong that you would not tell from the outside, and hardly from the inside, which part is old and which part is new. For, indeed, the old part itself grew up gradually, and the eleven gables of the house show up against the sky as though they were of one age.   – A Remaining Christmas

ABOUT HILAIRE BELLOC

Hilaire Belloc was born on July 27, 1870 in France but was raised and educated in England. In addition to being one of the most influential historians of the 20th century, he was also a prolific writer, an orator, poet, sailor, satirist, man of letters, soldier and political activist.  He is most remembered for his light verse, particularly for children, and for the lucidity and easy grace of his essays.  His Catholic faith had a profound influence on his writing.

What is it?

For the Advent reading group, John will lead a live (online) reading and discussion of Belloc’s Short Essay ‘A Remaining Christmas.’ Join us in an online room for this seasonal read aloud and discussion. You can participate in the discussion, ask questions, or just listen!

Why do it?

Because you’ve wanted something that makes you read great stories and essays in a reasonable length of time. Reflecting together helps you focus and consider various aspects of the text. And of course it’s fun and enriching to get together and hear the thoughts of the leader and other participants.

How to join?

Simply send us an email using the form above to let us know you plan to take part. We’ll send you a welcome email with the essay, and we’ll follow up with more information later in December.

If you run into any issues signing up, please reach out to lifecraftgroup@gmail.com.
